CA Foundation as the name suggests is laying down basic inquisitive in someone knowledge. The CA Foundation course is to understand accounting principles and implications of study on various kinds of accounts. The new CA foundation syllabus is considered to be more competitive and hard as compared to old syllabus . The same tone is been set for all the exams of CA course.
All the students who have appeared for 12th examination are eligible for chartered accountant foundation course. Although commerce stream students have the advantage in knowing the subject, students of science and arts stream are also eligible for CA foundation exam and can apply with the same enthusiasm as they have the edge over commerce students because of their analytical approach.
CA Intermediate Course is second level of examination. If you have cleared CA Foundation level exam, you are eligible for direct admission in Intermediate course. However, if you are graduate then there is no need to pass CA Foundation exams.
Additionally, CS Executive or CMA Inter passed students may also directly get admission to CA Intermediate. They are exempt from doing foundation course of ICAI. After CA Intermediate you have to register for 3 years of articleship or practical training.
There are 2 Groups and 8 subjects in CA Intermediate. Group-1 contain four papers and Group-2 also have 4 subjects.
Many students tend to confuse between CMA, ICWAI, ICMAI and CWA. So to clarify this, ICWAI has changed its name to ICMAI. And the course ICWAI has been renamed to CMA. Which means there is no difference between ICWAI and CMA, apart from the name.
Students who have passed their +2 exams are eligible for the CMA Foundation exams.
ICMAI conducts the CMA foundation exam two times a year in months of June and December. If you have any graduate degree, you are exempted from ICMAI Foundation exams.

Intermediate Course of ICMAI or Intermediate Course of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India (ICMAI) is a course of twelve months duration which is the second level/second stage study after clearing the foundation course on the path of becoming a Cost Accountant. The ICWAI course involves study of subjects and topics such as Cost and Management Accountancy, Auditing, Tax Laws and Tax Planning, Organization & Management Fundamentals, Accounting, Economics and Business Fundamentals, etc.
The course provided by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India (ICMAI) is a mixture of postal tuition and mandatory coaching classes for a specified period. Study material is provided to the students at the time of admission. Examinations are held twice a year i.e. in June and in December at various centres of the country .
Aspiring candidates who have passed the foundation course and are not less than 18 years of age can apply for an intermediate course of ICWAI.
Graduates can directly enrol to the intermediate course without doing the foundation course of ICWAI.
The employment opportunities for an Intermediate Course of ICWAIS are ample in both private and public sector.
Intermediate Course of ICWAIS program has been recognized by Association of Indian Universities for admission to Ph.D. courses in commerce and allied subjects.
